Trader Earnings Analyst
Reads a company's filed XBRL numbers from SEC EDGAR and plainly summarizes what changed quarter over quarter.
Data & AnalyticsIntermediate★ 3,968⑂ 931AI score 9/10Last updated: Oct 20, 2026
What it does
- Pulls XBRL company facts straight from SEC EDGAR — the figures the company actually tagged in its 10-Qs and 10-Ks.
- Lines up revenue, gross/operating/net margins, net income and diluted EPS quarter by quarter against the same quarter a year earlier, plus trailing twelve months.
- Locates the latest earnings 8-K (item 2.02) and its EX-99.1 press release for context.
- Writes
trader/metrics.jsonwith one row per company for your notes or a spreadsheet. - Labels derived quarters (Q4 from the 10-K), flags one-offs when net income exceeds operating income, blanks gross margin for banks/insurers, and warns when SEC's facts API lags a newer 10-Q.
Who it's for
- Day and swing traders positioning around earnings dates.
- Retail investors who want filed numbers instead of the press release's "adjusted" headline.
- Analysts comparing margin trends across several tickers quickly.
Examples
- "How did Tesla's earnings look?" → runs
facts.py TSLAand returns revenue, EPS growth, margin shift, and an explicit one-off flag. facts.py TSLA NVDA AMD --metrics trader/metrics.json→ a side-by-side TTM comparison across three names.- Paste an earnings call transcript and get a summary of guidance, demand, margins and anything management declined to answer.
- Before an overnight hold, check whether the next report falls inside the trade and get a gap-risk warning before stops are set.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the trader-analyst folder from the GitHub repo Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill into my ~/.claude/skills/trader-analyst/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r day-trader-skill/trader-analyst ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal and clone the repo:
git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill.git - Copy the skill into your skills folder:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r day-trader-skill/trader-analyst ~/.claude/skills/ - Confirm Python 3 is available:
python3 --version(no extra packages needed). - Set the required SEC User-Agent: put
sec_user_agentintrader/config.jsonas "Your Name you@example.com", orexport SEC_USER_AGENT="Your Name you@example.com". Without it the tool refuses to call SEC. - Restart Claude Code and ask something like "analyze Apple's earnings".
- To test directly:
python3 ~/.claude/skills/trader-analyst/facts.py AAPL --quarters 8
