Open the Furnace: Short-Video Hooks & Structure

Designs the first line, the proof shot that follows, the mid-section and the ending for a short video — and picks an edit order once you've already shot the footage.

Content & WritingIntermediate★ 495⑂ 76AI score 9/10Last updated: Oct 28, 2026

What it does

  • Forces you to fix the video's core idea first (what the viewer should understand, believe, and do), then makes every shot serve it.
  • Builds the opening line through six checks: which appeal axis (entertain / help / show skill / warn of risk), what the viewer is defending against right now, how many easy-to-grasp points fit in one sentence, who the subject is, whether it rides desire and laziness honestly, and the tone.
  • Chains hook → proof → next hook so the promise is cashed in on the very next shot instead of being over-claimed.
  • Selects a structure by footage type: teaching (hook → proof → promise → condition → call), documentary/story (event → action → change), expert Q&A, or hot-take commentary — with a stated reason for the choice.
  • Post-shoot mode: proposes cuts and ordering strictly from the clips you describe, with explicit rules against inventing timestamps or claiming it watched your video.

Who it's for

  • Short-form creators scripting and shooting their own Reels/Shorts/TikToks.
  • Solo educators, freelancers and personal brands whose views die in the first two seconds.
  • Anyone sitting on raw clips with no idea what order to assemble them in.

Example uses

  1. "Here's my topic on AI agents — give me two candidate opening lines" → two options plus why each fits this audience and footage, and the proof shot that must follow.
  2. "This opener feels self-indulgent, fix it" → it strips out benefit-baiting ("save tens of thousands") and rhetorical self-questions, replacing them with concrete on-scene language.
  3. "I shot five airport clips, how do I cut them?" → an order and a keep/drop list derived only from the clip descriptions you provide.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart.
Copy the skills/tslj-open folder from the GitHub repo liuhaisi2026212-maker/taishang-laojun into my ~/.claude/skills/tslj-open/.
When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.

Install with a command instead

git clone https://github.com/liuhaisi2026212-maker/taishang-laojun.git /tmp/taishang-laojun && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/taishang-laojun/skills/* ~/.claude/skills/

⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.

  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Clone the repo: git clone https://github.com/liuhaisi2026212-maker/taishang-laojun.git
  3. Create the skills folder: mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
  4. Copy the skills over: cp -r taishang-laojun/skills/* ~/.claude/skills/ — copy the whole set, since this skill links to taishang-laojun/references/core-mind.md, edit-six-cuts.md and deai-rulebook.md.
  5. Restart Claude Code and test with something like "design an opening line for my short video about X".
  6. The skill text is in Chinese; add "answer in English" to your prompt if you want English output, and re-tune the second/character counts for your platform (they're Douyin-based).
