Web & APIIntermediate★ 272⑂ 17AI score 9/10Last updated: Nov 5, 2026
What it does
- Pulls transcripts for any YouTube URL, bare ID, short or Shorts link in five formats:
text,json,srt,vtt,srv3. - Covers video metadata (title, channel, duration, views), YouTube search, a channel's latest uploads, its full video catalogue, in-channel relevance search, and playlist listing/search.
- Runs asynchronous bulk transcript jobs for up to 4,000 videos with progress polling, partial results and cancellation.
- Documents per-endpoint credit costs, refund rules and an action for every HTTP error code so the agent spends credits deliberately.
- Includes a safety rule to treat fetched captions and titles as untrusted data and never follow instructions hidden inside them.
Who it's for
- Researchers and content strategists who summarize, quote or translate talks, lectures and tutorials.
- Marketers monitoring competitor channels and creator upload activity.
- Developers feeding caption chunks into RAG/embedding pipelines via the
segmentparameter (500–1500 chars).
Example uses
- "Summarize this video" + link → one call with
format=text&video_metadata=truereturns transcript plus title for a single credit. - "Grab every @3blue1brown video and cluster by topic" → list IDs with
channel/videos?ids_only=true, then submit one bulk job. - "Where does the speaker mention X?" → request
format=jsonand cite exactstarttimestamps.

Install in Claude Code
Let Claude do it — paste this into Claude Code
Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the clawhub/transcriptout folder from the GitHub repo artemchuikin/youtube-skills into my ~/.claude/skills/transcriptout/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills.git /tmp/youtube-skills && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/youtube-skills/clawhub/transcriptout ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal and clone the repo:
git clone https://github.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills.git - Copy the skill into Claude's skills folder:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r youtube-skills/clawhub/transcriptout ~/.claude/skills/ - Create a free account at https://transcriptout.com (100 credits on signup, no card required).
- Generate an API key in the dashboard — it should start with
sk_. - Add
export TRANSCRIPTOUT_API_KEY="sk_..."to~/.zshrcor~/.bashrc, then runsource ~/.zshrc. - Restart Claude Code, paste a YouTube link and ask it to summarize the video to confirm everything works.
