What it does
- Accepts full YouTube URLs, youtu.be short links, Shorts links, or bare 11-character video IDs.
- Returns transcripts as
text,json,srt,vttorsrv3; the JSON form includes per-linestartanddurationfor exact citations. video_metadata=trueadds title, channel, duration and view count in the same 1-credit call.- Options for
lang(caption track language),kind(manual vs auto captions) andsegment(chunk size 20-5000 chars) make it RAG- and embedding-friendly. - A full error table (400/401/402/404/410/429/502/503) tells the agent when to retry and when credits are refunded.
Who it's for
- Students and researchers taking notes from long lectures or talks.
- Journalists and analysts who need verbatim quotes with timestamps.
- Content marketers repurposing videos into posts and newsletters.
- Developers feeding video captions into search or RAG pipelines.
Examples
- "Summarize this talk in 10 bullets" + link → fetches
format=textand summarizes. - "Quote the pricing section with timestamps" → uses
format=jsonand thestartfields. - "Translate this German lecture into English notes" → calls with
lang=de, then translates.

Read the instructions in this file and follow them to help me: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills/HEAD/clawhub/transcript/SKILL.md What I want: (describe your task here)
If Claude can't open the link, open it yourself and paste the contents instead.
↓ If it works for you, download the ZIP below and install it. Then it runs on its own — no pasting each time.
Install in the Claude app (no terminal)
- Download the ZIP with the button below.
- In Claude, open Settings → Capabilities and turn on 'Code execution and file creation'. (one time)
- Go to Customize → Skills → + → 'Upload a skill' and upload the ZIP.
Install in Claude Code
Let Claude do it — paste this into Claude Code
Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the clawhub/transcript folder from the GitHub repo artemchuikin/youtube-skills into my ~/.claude/skills/transcript/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills.git /tmp/youtube-skills && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/youtube-skills/clawhub/transcript ~/.claude/skills/transcript⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal.
- Clone the repo:
git clone https://github.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills.git - Install the skill:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r youtube-skills/clawhub/transcript ~/.claude/skills/transcript - Create a free account at https://transcriptout.com (100 credits on signup, no card) and generate an API key starting with
sk_. - Export the key:
echo 'export TRANSCRIPTOUT_API_KEY=sk_...' >> ~/.zshrc && source ~/.zshrc(use~/.bashrcon bash). - Restart Claude Code, paste a YouTube link and ask for a summary — the skill triggers automatically.
- Troubleshooting: 401 means a bad key, 402 means you are out of credits, 404 means that language/track has no captions.
