What it does
- Reads
trader/plan.jsonand creates three alerts in one go: the stop, the target and "flat by close". - Supports above/below/stop/target levels, percent moves from the previous close, any time of day, and the NYSE opening bell.
- Computes New York time and DST itself, with 2026–2027 holidays and 1:00 p.m. early closes built in.
- Fetches free delayed quotes (Yahoo chart JSON, Stooq CSV) one ticker at a time and writes
trader/prices.jsonfor sizing and risk checks. - Each rule rings once per day, and the skill never places, cancels or changes an order.
Who it's for
- Day and swing traders who can't watch the chart all session
- Traders with bracket orders at the broker who just want to be told when a level is hit
- Users of the companion trader-exit / trader-risk / trader-broker skills
Examples
- "Alert me when TSLA hits 358.32" →
alerts.py add --symbol TSLA --stop 358.32 - Right after trader-exit writes a plan:
add --from-plancreates stop, target and 15:55 flat-by alerts dated to that session - "Is the market open?" →
alerts.py clockreports open/closed and the next open

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the trader-alerts folder from the GitHub repo Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill into my ~/.claude/skills/trader-alerts/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r day-trader-skill/trader-alerts ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal.
- Run
git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill.git. - Create the skills folder:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills. - Copy the skill:
cp -r day-trader-skill/trader-alerts ~/.claude/skills/. - Confirm Python 3 is available with
python3 --version. - Restart Claude Code and ask "Is the US market open right now?" to verify.
- If you wire up a broker, keep API keys in environment variables or the Claude Desktop config — never paste them into chat.
