Terraform Module Maintainer
A schema-driven workflow for creating, changing, and upgrading reusable Terraform modules for any provider.
Dev & CodingAdvanced★ 356⑂ 56AI score 9/10Last updated: Nov 1, 2026
What it does
- Organizes Terraform module work into four modes: full create/restructure, targeted change (feature, bug, review finding), resolve review feedback with draft replies, and provider major upgrade.
- MCP-first schema rule: never author provider arguments from memory — it calls Terraform MCP tools (
get_latest_provider_version,get_provider_details) first, falling back to Registry docs via WebFetch. - Coverage ledger: every provider field must map to an exposed input, an output, a sensitive omission, a documented intentional omission, or "not applicable" — so "supports all features" is actually verifiable.
- Trust-aware verification contract (Rule 3): in an untrusted workspace only safe checks (
terraform fmt -check,terraform validate) run; pre-commit hooks, Makefile targets and generators are reported as skipped with a reason rather than silently passed. - Static config (
.editorconfig, release config, GitHub Actions workflows) is copied from profile templates instead of regenerated.
Who it's for
- Platform/infrastructure engineers who build and maintain shared Terraform modules in the terraform-aws-modules style.
- Teams maintaining modules across AWS, GCP and Azure that need one consistent convention set.
- Module maintainers who must triage review findings and bot comments and draft one reply per item.
Examples
- "Create a new AWS WAFv2 module" → schema lookup → coverage matrix →
main.tf/variables.tf/outputs.tfplusexamples/basicandexamples/completewith acreate = falsedisabled module call. - "Fix only the missing nested block flagged in review" → targeted change mode: impact analysis, minimal edit, backwards-compatibility classification, change report / PR body.
- "Bump the AWS provider from 5.x to 6.x" → schema diff across versions → handle renamed/removed/split fields → raise the version constraint → write consumer migration notes.

Read the instructions in this file and follow them to help me: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/modulestf/modulestf/HEAD/.agents/skills/terraform-module-maintainer/SKILL.md What I want: (describe your task here)
If Claude can't open the link, open it yourself and paste the contents instead.
↓ If it works for you, download the ZIP below and install it. Then it runs on its own — no pasting each time.
Install in the Claude app (no terminal)
- Download the ZIP with the button below.
- In Claude, open Settings → Capabilities and turn on 'Code execution and file creation'. (one time)
- Go to Customize → Skills → + → 'Upload a skill' and upload the ZIP.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the .agents/skills/terraform-module-maintainer folder from the GitHub repo modulestf/modulestf into my ~/.claude/skills/terraform-module-maintainer/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/modulestf/modulestf.git /tmp/modulestf && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/modulestf/.agents/skills/terraform-module-maintainer ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal and move to a scratch directory.
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/modulestf/modulestf.git - Create the skills directory:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills - Copy the whole skill folder (the
references/andprofiles/subfolders are required):cp -r modulestf/.agents/skills/terraform-module-maintainer ~/.claude/skills/ - The skill references
../change-scope/SKILL.md, so copy thechange-scopeskill from the same repo as well. - Restart Claude Code and try a request like "create a Terraform module for ..." to confirm it loads.
- For full value, install the Terraform MCP server, the
terraformCLI, and — for trusted runs —pre-commitandterraform-docs.
