Rust Review
Audits existing Rust code for soundness, error handling, API design, and idiom, then produces a prioritized review report with cited rules and minimal fixes.

What it does
- Reviews exactly the scope you point at — a file, module, crate, diff, or PR — not the whole repo.
- Reads
Cargo.tomlfor edition/MSRV and decides library vs. application, applying the strict API rules only where they belong. - Runs
cargo fmt --check,cargo clippy --all-targets -- -W clippy::pedantic, andcargo testfirst when a toolchain exists, folding grouped results into the report. - Walks a fixed priority order: correctness/soundness → error handling → API design → idiom → docs and tests.
- Emits a Must fix / Should fix / Consider report where every finding has a
file:line, a lookup-able rule citation (API Guidelines codes, Effective Rust items, Microsoft guidelines, clippy lints), a minimal code fix, and a mandatory "What's already good" section.
Who it's for
- Rust developers polishing a crate before publishing to crates.io.
- Teams that want consistent PR reviews catching reachable panics,
unsafewithout SAFETY comments, andOrd/Eqmismatches. - Bevy users who need ECS-specific checks like B0001 conflicting mutable queries.
Examples
- "Review src/parser.rs" → clippy warnings grouped into single findings, with externally reachable
unwrap()calls flagged as Must fix. - "Audit this PR diff" → only the changed lines and what they break are reviewed.
- "Is my crate's API publish-ready?" → flags
anyhow::Errorin the public API,&Stringparameters, and missing#[non_exhaustive], each with its rule code.

Read the instructions in this file and follow them to help me: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/morganlinton/BeautifulRust/HEAD/skills/rust-review/SKILL.md What I want: (describe your task here)
If Claude can't open the link, open it yourself and paste the contents instead.
↓ If it works for you, download the ZIP below and install it. Then it runs on its own — no pasting each time.
Install in the Claude app (no terminal)
- Download the ZIP with the button below.
- In Claude, open Settings → Capabilities and turn on 'Code execution and file creation'. (one time)
- Go to Customize → Skills → + → 'Upload a skill' and upload the ZIP.
Install in Claude Code
Let Claude do it — paste this into Claude Code
Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the skills/rust-review folder from the GitHub repo morganlinton/BeautifulRust into my ~/.claude/skills/rust-review/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/morganlinton/BeautifulRust.git /tmp/BeautifulRust && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/BeautifulRust/skills/rust-review ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal.
- Clone the repo:
git clone https://github.com/morganlinton/BeautifulRust.git - Create the skills directory:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills - Copy the skill:
cp -r BeautifulRust/skills/rust-review ~/.claude/skills/ - (Recommended) Also copy its companion:
cp -r BeautifulRust/skills/rust-best-practices ~/.claude/skills/so rule references andbevy.mdresolve. - Restart Claude Code and ask it to "review this Rust file" or "audit this crate".
- Make sure
cargoandclippyare installed in the project root so the tool-driven part of the review runs.
