Operator Project Index Setup
Builds or refreshes the Operator Project Index by driving the `operator-helper` CLI end to end.

What it does
- Checks the CLI with
operator-helper versionand runsoperator-helper upgradefirst when an update exists. - Runs
operator-helper index initand follows the emitted "Project Index Setup" guide, including when inspection reports failures. - Tells the user to run
$operator-project-initif the Project Brain is missing. - Ships a recovery path: install or repair the global npm package
@aerovato/operator-helperand retry on failure. - Instructs the agent to treat Helper output as working context rather than re-implementing Helper logic.
Who it's for
- Developers already using the Operator / Project Brain workflow.
- Teams that need a codebase index kept current so AI context stays accurate.
- Users who want Claude to read CLI output and handle follow-up steps automatically.
Examples
- First-time setup on a new repo — ask to "set up the project index" and it chains version check → upgrade →
index init. - After a large refactor — rebuild the index so stale file paths are cleared.
- When
index initerrors out — diagnose from the CLI output, rerun, and report the blocker clearly if unresolved.
Note: the skill holds no logic of its own;
@aerovato/operator-helperdoes the work, so that package is a hard prerequisite.

Try it now, no install
Paste this into Claude to use the skill without installing anything.
Read the instructions in this file and follow them to help me: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aerovato/operator-memory/HEAD/packages/codex/skills/operator-index/SKILL.md What I want: (describe your task here)
If Claude can't open the link, open it yourself and paste the contents instead.
↓ If it works for you, download the ZIP below and install it. Then it runs on its own — no pasting each time.
Install in the Claude app (no terminal)
- Download the ZIP with the button below.
- In Claude, open Settings → Capabilities and turn on 'Code execution and file creation'. (one time)
- Go to Customize → Skills → + → 'Upload a skill' and upload the ZIP.
Install in Claude Code
Let Claude do it — paste this into Claude Code
Install the skill I found on Claude Skill Mart. Copy the packages/codex/skills/operator-index folder from the GitHub repo aerovato/operator-memory into my ~/.claude/skills/operator-index/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/aerovato/operator-memory.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r operator-memory/packages/codex/skills/operator-index ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal.
- Verify Node.js and npm:
node -v,npm -v - Install the required CLI globally:
npm i -g @aerovato/operator-helper - Confirm it works:
operator-helper version - Clone the repo:
git clone https://github.com/aerovato/operator-memory.git - Copy the skill into place:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r operator-memory/packages/codex/skills/operator-index ~/.claude/skills/ - Restart Claude Code and ask it to "build the project index" to verify.
- If it reports a missing Project Brain, run
$operator-project-initfirst.
