OpenSpec Archive Change
Finalizes a completed OpenSpec change by verifying artifacts, tasks and delta specs before moving it into a dated archive folder.

What it does
Archives a completed change in the OpenSpec workflow, with safety checks at every step.
- Runs
openspec list --jsonand asks you to pick the change (it never auto-selects). - Runs
openspec status --change <name> --jsonto verify artifact completion; warns and asks for confirmation if anything is unfinished. - Counts
- [ ]vs- [x]entries intasks.mdand reports incomplete tasks. - Detects delta specs under
openspec/changes/<name>/specs/, diffs them against the main specs, and offers to sync. - Moves the directory to
openspec/changes/archive/YYYY-MM-DD-<name>and prints a completion summary. - This repo also adds an "archive gate" (
npm run openspec:gate) that must pass before archiving.
Who it's for
- Teams doing spec-driven development with the OpenSpec CLI
- Maintainers who want change history neatly filed by date
- Developers who want implementation closeout and spec sync handled in one pass
Examples
- "
add-login-retryis done — archive it" → checks artifacts/tasks, then moves toarchive/2026-07-26-add-login-retry/. - No change name given: "clean up finished changes" → lists active changes and prompts you to select one.
- Delta specs still present → summarizes adds/modifications/removals and offers "Sync now" vs "Archive without syncing".

If Claude can't open the link, open it yourself and paste the contents instead.
↓ If it works for you, download the ZIP below and install it. Then it runs on its own — no pasting each time.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the .agents/skills/openspec-archive-change folder from the GitHub repo Gitruck/cli into my ~/.claude/skills/openspec-archive-change/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/Gitruck/cli /tmp/gitruck-cli && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/gitruck-cli/.agents/skills/openspec-archive-change ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal.
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/Gitruck/cli /tmp/gitruck-cli - Create the skills directory:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills - Copy the skill:
cp -r /tmp/gitruck-cli/.agents/skills/openspec-archive-change ~/.claude/skills/ - Check the prerequisite: run
openspec --version. Without the OpenSpec CLI this skill cannot run. - Your project needs an
openspec/changes/layout. Note that the repo-specific archive gate relies onopenspec/gate.mjs, which is intentionally not committed — in other projects remove that section or implement your own gate. - Restart Claude Code and try: "archive the completed change".
