What it does

Puts Claude in the role of a senior identity designer and walks a logo project through explicit phases:

  • Discovery → brief: exact name, offering, audience, 3–5 brand adjectives, competitors, constraints (max five questions, plus a fast track that skips straight to concepts)
  • Research: searches a bundled library of 1,400+ real SVG logos by mark type, technique, geometry, subject, industry, colour and mood, and names the category clichés to avoid
  • Concepts: 8–12 one-sentence ideas across mark types, scored down to the three strongest and most different
  • SVG build: 256×256 canvas, black-first, exact angles (0/15/30/45/60/90°), letterforms as paths instead of live <text>
  • Testing: svg_audit.py flags live text, rasters, gradients, near-miss angles and tiny details; preview_sheet.py builds a 16/32 px pixel test, one-colour, reversed, squint, mirror and competitor shelf test
  • Checkpoint: shows a single concept-overview image and waits for your pick before doing the expensive work
  • Kit: palette, horizontal/stacked/symbol lockups, black/white/mono/reversed variants, favicon + app-icon + web-icon set, an industry-specific mockup presentation board, and a one-page usage guide

Examples

  1. New brand mark: "Design a logo for Lumen, a B2B analytics startup" → brief and assumptions → clichés (blue, upward arrows) ruled out → three black-and-white SVG concepts with a 16 px test sheet → full kit after you choose
  2. Fix an existing mark: "Our logo turns to mush as a favicon" → svg_audit.py finds hairlines and closing gaps → a simplified small-size cut plus a thinned reversed version
  3. Asset generation only: run export_variants.py --web-icons on an approved SVG to get favicon.ico, the PNG icon set, a webmanifest and the <head> snippet
  4. Client presentation: a café gets cup and bag mockups, a dev tool gets README and terminal mockups, with every slide exported as PNG

  4. Copy the skill into your Claude skills folder: mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r logo-design-skill/skills/logo-design ~/.claude/skills/
  5. (Recommended) Install an SVG renderer so Claude can actually look at its own work: pip install cairosvg, or have rsvg-convert, Inkscape or headless Chrome available.

  7. On Windows, replace python3 with python or py -3 in any command from the docs.
