Trader Budget Manager (trader-budget)
Turns a dollar budget and your own rules into exact per-stock buy amounts, written as Alpaca-shaped order proposals — never placed.

What it does
- Takes your cash buffer off the top, renormalises the remaining target weights, and allocates dollars.
- Enforces a per-position cap (default 25%), redistributing the excess by weight until nothing is over.
- Drops slices below your minimum order, rounds to whole dollars so no money is accidentally idle, and reports anything genuinely "left idle".
- Supports fractional or whole shares (whole shares require real prices in
trader/prices.json). - Writes proposals to
trader/orders.jsonin the exactplace_stock_ordershape; a separate skill handles risk checks and broker confirmation.
Who it's for
- Retail investors converting copied portfolio weights (e.g. 13F filings) into real dollar amounts.
- Anyone who wants mechanical discipline around cash buffers, concentration caps and order size limits.
- Alpaca users validating a workflow on a paper account first.
Examples
- "I have $5,000, size my trades" → table with a $500 cash buffer and AAPL pinned at the 25% cap.
python3 size.py --weights AAPL=22.04,AXP=17.14,GOOGL=12.62 --jsonfor a one-off calculation.python3 size.py --whole-shares --prices trader/prices.jsonfor brokers without fractional shares.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the trader-budget folder from the GitHub repo Jakeschincariol/trader-skill into my ~/.claude/skills/jakeschincariol-trader-budget/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/trader-skill.git /tmp/trader-skill && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/trader-skill/trader-budget ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal.
- Clone the repo:
git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/trader-skill.git - Create the skills folder:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills - Copy the skill:
cp -r trader-skill/trader-budget ~/.claude/skills/ - Optionally copy
trader-copycat,trader-riskandtrader-brokerfor the full pipeline. - Verify Python:
python3 --version. - Restart Claude Code, then ask "size my trades with a $5,000 budget"; on first run it will ask for the values that go into
trader/config.json. - Keep
"paper": trueand only consider live trading after you have watched the workflow on a paper account. This is tooling, not financial advice.
