Handoff Note
Writes a tight 8-line handoff note (done, open, next, decided, rejected) and saves it to project memory for the next chat or teammate.

What it does
- Runs
claude-db catchupto pull git state and stored memory, then merges it with what happened in the current chat. - Produces a note of at most 8 lines:
Done / Open / Nextalways, withDecided / Rejected / Watch out / Stateonly when there is something real to say. - Forces a reason after "because" for every decision and dead end, so the next session does not relitigate settled questions.
- Saves it via the
remembertool underkey: handoff, so one current note always replaces the old one and shows up at the start of the next chat. - Prints the note in a code block for pasting into Slack or a pull request description.
Who it's for
- Developers who want to carry context into the next Claude session
- People juggling several projects and constantly re-deriving "where was I?"
- Teams that want consistent handoff/PR summary notes
- Existing claude-db (project memory) users
Examples
- Finishing a feature: ask for a handoff note and get
Open: PR #18 not merged,Next: confirm retry policy on the worker queue, saved to memory. - Switching tasks: the
Stateline records the branch, uncommitted file count, and newest commit hash fromcatchup. - Handing the project to a teammate: paste the printed code block straight into the PR body or a chat message.

Install in Claude Code
Let Claude do it — paste this into Claude Code
Install the skill I found on Claude Skill Mart. Copy the skills/handoff folder from the GitHub repo Avijit07x/claude-db into my ~/.claude/skills/handoff/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/Avijit07x/claude-db.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r claude-db/skills/handoff ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal and clone the repo:
git clone https://github.com/Avijit07x/claude-db.git - Create the skills folder:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills - Copy the skill:
cp -r claude-db/skills/handoff ~/.claude/skills/ - This skill ships with claude-db. Follow the repo README to install the
claude-dbCLI and set up its memory (MCP) server, then verifyclaude-db catchupruns from your project root. - Restart Claude Code, open your project folder, and say: "wrap up and write a handoff note."
- If the memory tool is unavailable, the note is still printed but not saved — store it yourself in that case.
