Founder CFO (Unit Economics)

A CFO-in-a-skill that turns one JSON of costs and prices into unit economics, break-even, a month-by-month year 1 and what-if scenarios.

What it does

You fill in founder/numbers.json (price, variable cost per unit, fixed monthly costs, startup spend, planned and ramped daily volume, capacity) and the bundled unit_economics.py writes founder/cfo.md containing:

  • Per-unit table and contribution margin
  • Break-even expressed in units per day
  • Profit margin at the planned volume
  • Year 1 month by month, plus operating profit and the result after startup spend
  • Cash needed before the business pays for itself, and the payback month
  • A what-if table: price -10%, volume -20%, unit costs +15%

It raises flags for price below variable cost, break-even above capacity, a loss-making year 1, and payback beyond 12 months. Sourcing is enforced: real quotes first, checkable public prices second, clearly-labelled estimates last.

Who it's for

  • Prospective founders of cafés, shops, restaurants or subscription services who want the numbers before signing a lease
  • Small startup teams needing a defensible unit-economics table for a deck
  • Operators testing price or volume scenarios quickly

Examples

  1. Say "do the numbers, is this profitable?" — the skill asks for the inputs only you know, then generates the report.
  2. Test a price rise without editing the file: python3 unit_economics.py founder/numbers.json --price 7.00.
  3. Stress-test a soft launch: --volume 0.8 to see whether year 1 still clears break-even.

Install the skill I found on Claude Skill Mart.
Copy the skills/founder-cfo folder from the GitHub repo Jakeschincariol/founder-skill into my ~/.claude/skills/founder-cfo/.
When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.

Install with a command instead

git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/founder-skill.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r founder-skill/skills/founder-cfo ~/.claude/skills/

⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.

  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Clone the repo: git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/founder-skill.git
  3. Create the skills folder: mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
  4. Copy the skill: cp -r founder-skill/skills/founder-cfo ~/.claude/skills/
  5. Confirm Python 3 is available: python3 --version
  6. Start Claude Code in your project folder and say "run the CFO" or "find the break-even".
  7. Copy the bundled example.json (a matcha café) as a template and edit it into founder/numbers.json.
