EGM Design Draft
Drafts a technical design document section by section from a concepts brief, with an approval gate after each section.

What it does
Step two of the Elephant-Goldfish (EGM) feature flow: it turns an aligned problem statement and requirements into a full technical design document.
- Ingests predecessor context in priority order —
concepts_brief.md, thendiscussion_summary.md, then an interactive chat prompt. - Drafts Overview/Goals/Non-Goals → Technical Plan (with ASCII or Mermaid diagrams) → Alternatives Considered → Detailed Implementation (every file touched, with rationale, no real code).
- Writes everything to
design_draft.mdinstead of dumping it in chat, then presents a single-select approve/revise gate per section, honoring inline comments. - Reconciles the finished draft against the brief and reports contradictions line by line before saving to
docs/designs/<feature>.mdand updating SITEMAP.md. - Enforces plain-English, anti-sycophancy and counter-argument rules, and makes the owner (not the model) pick between defensible architecture options.
Who it's for
- Engineers on teams that require a design doc before implementation
- Tech leads who want a structured draft ready for review quickly
- Anyone who wants the model to stress-test ideas instead of agreeing by default
Examples
- With a
concepts_brief.mdfromegm-brainstorm, run the skill and approve each of the four sections until the draft is complete. - With no predecessor file, supply the problem and goals in chat and let the skill start from there.
- Finalize to
docs/designs/<feature>.md, then hand off toegm-reviewfor a fresh-context critique.

Read the instructions in this file and follow them to help me: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/google/elephant-goldfish-model/HEAD/distributions/claude/skills/egm-draft/SKILL.md What I want: (describe your task here)
If Claude can't open the link, open it yourself and paste the contents instead.
↓ If it works for you, download the ZIP below and install it. Then it runs on its own — no pasting each time.
Install in the Claude app (no terminal)
- Download the ZIP with the button below.
- In Claude, open Settings → Capabilities and turn on 'Code execution and file creation'. (one time)
- Go to Customize → Skills → + → 'Upload a skill' and upload the ZIP.
Install in Claude Code
Let Claude do it — paste this into Claude Code
Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the distributions/claude/skills/egm-draft folder from the GitHub repo google/elephant-goldfish-model into my ~/.claude/skills/egm-draft/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/google/elephant-goldfish-model.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r elephant-goldfish-model/distributions/claude/skills/egm-draft ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal.
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/google/elephant-goldfish-model.git - Create the skills folder:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills - Copy the skill:
cp -r elephant-goldfish-model/distributions/claude/skills/egm-draft ~/.claude/skills/ - The skill references sibling
docs/,resources/andreferences/files, so install the full Claude distribution (plugin) or copy those files too, otherwise some instructions will point at missing paths. - Restart Claude Code and invoke it explicitly with
/egm-draft— model auto-invocation is disabled for this skill. - For best results, run
egm-brainstormfirst so aconcepts_brief.mdexists as input.
