Edit Video (one-command first-pass cut)

Transcribes your raw footage, cuts retakes and dead air, and builds a finished first-pass timeline inside your open DaVinci Resolve project.

Image & VideoAdvanced★ 400⑂ 55AI score 8/10Last updated: Oct 23, 2026

What it does

  • Runs a doctor check on raw video/, probes codecs and picture profiles, and transcribes verbatim with word-level timestamps.
  • Detects silences and retakes, then builds a keep-list using rough-cut rules and vlog-pacing for natural breathing room; speechless clips are handled as B-roll.
  • Builds the timeline in Resolve: footage into bins, a versioned copy of your template timeline (never overwritten), cut on V1/A1, alternating jump-cut zooms, green-tagged B-roll, grading for log footage, pink markers for spoken notes, and audio normalization last.
  • Stops for frame-rate mismatches or a failure that repeats twice, and always reports what it guessed or was unsure about.
  • Handles plain-language follow-ups ("put back X", "too choppy", "add captions") by rebuilding as v2, and re-reads the timeline so your manual trims are respected.

Who it's for

  • Solo vloggers and YouTubers who edit in DaVinci Resolve.
  • Editors who want a transcript-driven rough cut instead of scrubbing footage by hand.
  • Anyone who'd rather spend their time on polish than on the first pass.

Examples

  1. Drop footage in raw video/, open your Resolve project, type "/edit-video" — get a cut timeline plus a report of every removed retake.
  2. After review, say "put back the bit at 03:10" — the keep-list is edited and a v2 timeline is built.
  3. Ask for a 4:3 2880x2160 frame — a custom timeline resolution is set with footage scaled to fill and cropped.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart.
Copy the skills/edit-video folder from the GitHub repo appariciojunior/video-editor-skills into my ~/.claude/skills/edit-video/.
When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.

Install with a command instead

git clone https://github.com/appariciojunior/video-editor-skills.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r video-editor-skills/skills/* ~/.claude/skills/

⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.

  1. Open your terminal.
  2. Clone the repo: git clone https://github.com/appariciojunior/video-editor-skills.git
  3. Create the skills folder: mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
  4. Copy all skills: cp -r video-editor-skills/skills/* ~/.claude/skills/ — copy the whole set, since this skill calls siblings like rough-cut, resolve-scripting, captions and youtube-export.
  5. Install DaVinci Resolve and enable scripting: Preferences → System → General → External scripting using: Local.
  6. Run the video-editor-setup skill first to create the folder structure, helper scripts and CLAUDE.md.
  7. Put your footage in raw video/, open your Resolve project, then type "/edit-video" in Claude Code.
