Daily Update — Wiki Maintenance Cycle

Runs a daily Obsidian wiki maintenance pass (source freshness, index, hot.md, state files) and installs the 9 AM launchd/systemd/cron schedule.

AutomationIntermediate★ 3,545⑂ 361AI score 8/10Last updated: Oct 10, 2026

What it does

  • Compares every source in .manifest.json against file mtimes and classifies them as fresh / stale / missing.
  • Reconciles index.md via obsidian-wiki memory index and regenerates hot.md sections (Recent Activity, Active Threads, Flagged Contradictions) via obsidian-wiki memory hot, refreshing Key Takeaways only when they're stale.
  • Writes vault-scoped state (.last_update, .pending_delta, .vault_path) so the terminal notification knows when the wiki is >20h stale.
  • Runs a wiki-lint health check on the LINT_SCHEDULE cadence (default weekly) and folds broken links / orphans / stale pages into the report.
  • Setup mode detects the platform and installs a launchd agent (macOS), a systemd user timer (Linux), or a crontab line, plus optional shell-rc notification sourcing.
  • Refreshes the QMD search index (qmd update / qmd embed) after vault writes and reports its status separately from the vault work.

Who it's for

  • Users of the Ar9av/obsidian-wiki stack who keep Claude session history in an Obsidian vault.
  • Anyone tired of hand-editing index files who wants a dependable morning refresh job.
  • People juggling several vaults, since state is keyed per vault id.

Examples

  1. Run /daily-update — get a report like "Sources: 4 fresh · 2 stale · 0 missing / Index: 118 pages (3 added)" plus commands to sync the stale sources.
  2. Say "install the daily cron and terminal reminder" — it picks launchd/systemd/cron for your OS, appends the notify source line to .zshrc, and runs the script once to seed state.
  3. Set LINT_SCHEDULE=daily in .env — every cycle also runs wiki-lint and adds a Health check: line to the summary.

Install the skill I found on Claude Skill Mart.
Copy the .skills/daily-update folder from the GitHub repo Ar9av/obsidian-wiki into my ~/.claude/skills/daily-update/.
When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.

Install with a command instead

git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git ~/obsidian-wiki && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r ~/obsidian-wiki/.skills/daily-update ~/.claude/skills/

⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.

  1. Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git ~/obsidian-wiki
  2. Create the skills folder if needed: mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
  3. Copy this skill: cp -r ~/obsidian-wiki/.skills/daily-update ~/.claude/skills/
  4. Copy the companion skills it calls (llm-wiki, wiki-lint, impl-validator): cp -r ~/obsidian-wiki/.skills/* ~/.claude/skills/
  5. Install the obsidian-wiki CLI per the repo README, then set OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH and OBSIDIAN_WIKI_REPO in a .env or the global config.
  6. Make the helper script executable: chmod +x ~/obsidian-wiki/scripts/daily-update.sh
  7. Restart Claude Code and run /daily-update, or ask it to "set up the daily update scheduler".
  8. Optional: approve adding source .../scripts/wiki-notify.sh to your shell rc file to get stale-wiki reminders in the terminal.
