Copilot History Ingest for Obsidian
Mines your GitHub Copilot CLI and VS Code session history and distills architecture decisions, debug notes and recurring patterns into Obsidian wiki pages.

What it does
- Scans all three Copilot data locations:
~/.copilot/session-state/(per-session dirs),~/.copilot/session-store.db(global SQLite), andGitHub.copilot-chattranscripts under VS CodeworkspaceStorage. - Reads
.manifest.jsonat the vault root to ingest only new or modified sessions (Append mode), or everything on request (Full mode). - Processes sources in value order: checkpoints (overview / work_done / technical_details / important_files / next_steps) → session summaries → raw turns → user-saved memory artifacts like
plan.md→ file-touch patterns and linked commits/PRs/issues. - Clusters knowledge by topic instead of by session, routing it to
projects/<name>/concepts,projects/<name>/skills, or globalconcepts/,skills/,entities/,synthesis/. - Stamps every page with
summary,base_confidence,lifecycleandprovenancefrontmatter, and updatesindex.md/log.md/hot.mdonly through the lock-safeobsidian-wiki memory synccommand. - Enforces privacy rules: never copy raw transcripts verbatim, skip secrets/tokens, and skip internal reasoning fields entirely.
Who it's for
- Developers who live in Copilot CLI and don't want hard-won debugging knowledge to vanish with session history.
- Existing Obsidian knowledge-base users running the companion
llm-wikiskill from this repo. - Anyone wanting cross-project synthesis pages of recurring patterns and important files.
Example uses
- "Just ingest the new Copilot sessions since last time" → diffs against the manifest and writes only the delta.
- "Mine patterns across my Copilot sessions" → cross-analyses many sessions into a page like
synthesis/common-debugging-patterns.md. - "Capture what I learned about my-project" → resolves the project from
repository/cwd, writes architecture notes intoprojects/my-project/concepts/, and refreshes the project overview page.

Install the skill I found on Claude Skill Mart. Copy the .skills/copilot-history-ingest folder from the GitHub repo Ar9av/obsidian-wiki into my ~/.claude/skills/copilot-history-ingest/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r obsidian-wiki/.skills/copilot-history-ingest ~/.claude/skills/ && cp -r obsidian-wiki/.skills/llm-wiki ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git - Create the skills folder:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills - Copy this skill plus its required dependency:
cp -r obsidian-wiki/.skills/copilot-history-ingest obsidian-wiki/.skills/llm-wiki ~/.claude/skills/ - Configure paths: set
OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATHin a.envin your working directory (or global config). Optionally setCOPILOT_HISTORY_PATH(defaults to~/.copilot/session-state) andCOPILOT_VSCODE_STORAGE_PATHfor your OS's VS CodeworkspaceStorage. - Verify SQLite access:
sqlite3 ~/.copilot/session-store.db ".tables" - (Optional) For search indexing, install the
qmdCLI and setQMD_WIKI_COLLECTION; if unset, that step is skipped automatically. - Restart Claude Code and ask: "ingest my Copilot session history into Obsidian". Back up your vault before the first run, since the skill writes many pages.
