console-backend (PS2Recomp Backend Engineer)

Reads PS2Recomp runtime logs and turns unimplemented stubs, syscall TODOs, IOP RPC gaps and disc I/O failures into a ranked fix list with the exact file to edit.

Dev & CodingAdvanced★ 276⑂ 34AI score 8/10Last updated: Oct 22, 2026

What it does

  • Scans runtime logs line by line for Unimplemented PS2 stub, [Syscall TODO], missing functions, unhandled IOP RPCs, failed disc reads and untranslated instructions.
  • Ranks every issue with its count, first PC and RA, and names which of four fix tools applies — a TOML binding, runtime C++, an entry point plus recompile, or a game override — plus the file to open.
  • With --repo pointing at a real PS2Recomp checkout it reads ps2_call_list.h, Dispatcher.cpp and Kernel/** for true handler names and syscall numbers.
  • Prints a Markdown table for STATE.md and never writes into the checkout (read-only).

Who it's for

  • Developers statically recompiling PS2 games with PS2Recomp.
  • Anyone chasing a boot-time stop who wants a systematic, log-driven triage loop.
  • Users of the wider console-skill set (/console-tester, /console-reverse, /console-mod).

Examples

  1. python3 stubs.py scan console/runs/latest.log --repo ../PS2Recomp — find the first issue that ended the run and the file to fix it in.
  2. python3 stubs.py syscall 0x3C --repo ../PS2Recomp — resolve an unknown syscall number to its real handler.
  3. python3 stubs.py handlers --repo ../PS2Recomp --todo — list handlers still marked TODO_NAMED to plan the next batch of work.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart.
Copy the console-backend folder from the GitHub repo Jakeschincariol/console-skill into my ~/.claude/skills/console-backend/.
When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.

Install with a command instead

git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/console-skill.git /tmp/console-skill && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/console-skill/console-backend ~/.claude/skills/

⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.

  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Clone the repo: git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/console-skill.git
  3. Create the skills folder: mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
  4. Copy the skill: cp -r console-skill/console-backend ~/.claude/skills/
  5. Confirm Python 3 is available: python3 --version
  6. Note the path to your own PS2Recomp checkout (e.g. ../PS2Recomp) for the --repo flag.
  7. Restart Claude Code and say "unimplemented stub", "syscall TODO" or "it crashes at boot" to trigger the skill.
