Codex History Ingest

Mines ~/.codex session rollout logs and distills them into topic-clustered Obsidian wiki pages.

AutomationAdvanced★ 3,520⑂ 350AI score 8/10Last updated: Oct 3, 2026

What it does

  • Surveys ~/.codex (session_index.jsonl, sessions/**/rollout-*.jsonl, optional history.jsonl, archived sessions) and diffs against .manifest.json to classify files as new, modified, or unchanged.
  • Parses rollout JSONL event envelopes, keeping user intent and assistant-visible output while filtering token accounting, tool plumbing, and raw telemetry.
  • Applies a privacy filter: strips API keys, tokens, passwords, redacts private identifiers, and summarizes instead of dumping transcripts or system prompts.
  • Clusters knowledge by topic rather than session and routes it into projects/, concepts/, skills/, entities/, synthesis/.
  • Writes summary, base_confidence, lifecycle frontmatter plus provenance markers (^[extracted], ^[inferred], ^[ambiguous]), updates .manifest.json, and refreshes index.md/log.md/hot.md through the locked obsidian-wiki memory sync command.
  • Optionally refreshes the QMD search index (qmd update / embed) only after vault writes.

Who it's for

  • Heavy Codex CLI users who want past sessions turned into reusable knowledge instead of dead logs.
  • Obsidian vault owners already running this repo's llm-wiki / obsidian-wiki toolchain.
  • Anyone building debug playbooks and per-project architecture notes from coding history.

Examples

  • "Process my Codex history" → append-mode sync that ingests only new rollouts and reports a delta summary.
  • After wiki-rebuild, request a full re-ingest to rebuild every page from all rollout files.
  • "What have I discussed about CLI tooling in Codex?" → merges recurring themes across dates into a single skills/ technique page.

Install the skill I found on Claude Skill Mart.
Copy the .skills/codex-history-ingest folder from the GitHub repo Ar9av/obsidian-wiki into my ~/.claude/skills/codex-history-ingest/.
When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.

Install with a command instead

git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r obsidian-wiki/.skills/* ~/.claude/skills/

⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.

  1. Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git
  2. Create the skills folder: mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
  3. Copy the skills over: cp -r obsidian-wiki/.skills/* ~/.claude/skills/ (copy all of them — this skill depends on llm-wiki).
  4. Set OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH (and CODEX_HISTORY_PATH if your Codex data is not in ~/.codex) in a .env file or the global config.
  5. Install/link the repo's obsidian-wiki CLI; optionally install qmd and set QMD_WIKI_COLLECTION for search indexing.
  6. Restart Claude Code and say "add my Codex conversations to the wiki" or run /wiki-history-ingest codex.
  7. For the first run, ask it to process just a few sessions so you can verify the redaction output before a full ingest.
