Copilot History Ingest for Obsidian

Mines GitHub Copilot CLI and VS Code session history and distills it into topic-based Obsidian wiki pages.

AutomationAdvanced★ 3,691⑂ 371AI score 8/10Last updated: Nov 5, 2026

What it does

  • Scans all three Copilot storage locations: per-session dirs in ~/.copilot/session-state/, the global ~/.copilot/session-store.db SQLite database, and the VS Code workspaceStorage Copilot chat transcripts plus memory artifacts.
  • Prioritises pre-distilled checkpoints (overview, work_done, technical_details, important_files, next_steps) before falling back to raw JSONL turns, with explicit guidance on which event types to skim or skip.
  • Clusters by topic rather than by session, routing knowledge into projects/<name>/, concepts/, skills/, entities/, and synthesis/.
  • Uses .manifest.json for incremental (append) ingestion, then updates the manifest plus index.md / log.md / hot.md via a single locked obsidian-wiki memory sync call.
  • Ships privacy rules (never copy secrets or internal reasoning text) and provenance markers (^[inferred], ^[ambiguous]), plus an optional QMD search-index refresh.

Who it's for

  • Obsidian power users treating their vault as a second brain who don't want AI-session knowledge to evaporate.
  • Developers running GitHub Copilot CLI daily with dozens of accumulated sessions.
  • Teams already running the llm-wiki / obsidian-wiki CLI wiki automation stack.

Examples

  1. "Ingest only the new Copilot sessions from this week" → manifest delta computed, reported as "3 new, 1 modified".
  2. "Pull architecture decisions for my-project out of Copilot history" → checkpoint technical_details merged into projects/my-project/concepts/main-architecture.md.
  3. "Find debugging patterns that repeat across my repos" → synthesized into synthesis/common-debugging-patterns.md.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart.
Copy the skills/copilot-history-ingest folder from the GitHub repo Ar9av/obsidian-wiki into my ~/.claude/skills/ar9av-copilot-history-ingest/.
When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.

Install with a command instead

git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git /tmp/obsidian-wiki && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/obsidian-wiki/skills/copilot-history-ingest ~/.claude/skills/

⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.

  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Clone the repo: git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git
  3. Create the skills folder: mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
  4. Copy this skill: cp -r obsidian-wiki/skills/copilot-history-ingest ~/.claude/skills/
  5. Copy its dependencies: cp -r obsidian-wiki/skills/llm-wiki ~/.claude/skills/ (plus wiki-history-ingest if you want the router entry point).
  6. Set OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH, COPILOT_HISTORY_PATH, and COPILOT_VSCODE_STORAGE_PATH in a .env file or the global config — the VS Code storage path differs per OS.
  7. Confirm sqlite3 is available (sqlite3 --version); the skill queries the session store directly.
  8. Restart Claude Code and ask: "Ingest my Copilot history into the wiki."
