Code Understand — On-Demand Architecture Focus Map
Generates a ranked focus map of the load-bearing files, symbols, callers and dependencies in an unfamiliar codebase, each with file:line citations.

What it does
- Produces a ranked focus map of the symbols and files the architecture hangs on, each with a
file:linecitation and an evidence type (defines / imports / call edge / text match). - Supports impact analysis via
--changed <file>or--since <sha>so you can see the blast radius of a diff before you finish it. - Auto-selects a backend: CodeGraph if installed, then an existing Graphify graph (read-only), otherwise a dependency-free builtin regex extractor plus
rg. - Includes a GUARD: if the command is missing or fails, Claude falls back to ordinary grep/read exploration instead of stalling.
- Explicit hygiene rules: treat output as a disposable cache, never commit the raw JSON or
.codegraph/directory.
Who it's for
- Developers onboarding onto a legacy project or exploring an unfamiliar open-source repo.
- Anyone planning a large refactor who wants "what would break?" answered first.
- Engineers who want PR descriptions and commit messages backed by real file:line pointers.
Example uses
- "How does authentication work in this repo?" → run
obsidian-wiki code-understand --project ., read only the cited locations, then explain with citations. - Before reshaping a payment module →
--changed src/payment/*.tsto list its callers and callees. - Reviewing a branch's reach →
--since origin/main --max-symbols 100 --pretty.

Read the instructions in this file and follow them to help me: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki/HEAD/skills/code-understand/SKILL.md What I want: (describe your task here)
If Claude can't open the link, open it yourself and paste the contents instead.
↓ If it works for you, download the ZIP below and install it. Then it runs on its own — no pasting each time.
Install in the Claude app (no terminal)
- Download the ZIP with the button below.
- In Claude, open Settings → Capabilities and turn on 'Code execution and file creation'. (one time)
- Go to Customize → Skills → + → 'Upload a skill' and upload the ZIP.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart. Copy the skills/code-understand folder from the GitHub repo Ar9av/obsidian-wiki into my ~/.claude/skills/ar9av-code-understand/. When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.
Install with a command instead
git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git /tmp/obsidian-wiki && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/obsidian-wiki/skills/code-understand ~/.claude/skills/⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.
- Open a terminal and clone the repo:
git clone https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki.git - Create the skills folder:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills - Copy the skill in:
cp -r obsidian-wiki/skills/code-understand ~/.claude/skills/ - Install the
obsidian-wikiCLI that this skill drives, following the repo's README. - (Optional) For richer cross-file call-graph evidence, install
npm install -g @colbymchenry/codegraph— only with your own go-ahead. - Verify availability with
obsidian-wiki doctor --project .and check thecode-understanding.*capability lines. - Restart Claude Code and ask something like "map the architecture of this codebase" to trigger the skill.
