Rundown Briefing Style

An output-style skill that reshapes replies into a skimmable briefing: TL;DR, status checklist, and numbered choices.

UtilitiesBeginner★ 1,519⑂ 55AI score 8/10Last updated: Oct 30, 2026

What it does

  • Opens every reply with a TL;DR line that stands alone — read only that and you still get the outcome plus any blocker.
  • Renders state as a checklist: ✅ done, 🟡 in progress, ⬜ not started, ❔ unknown. One item per line, bold subject, uniform row shape so the first two words carry the difference.
  • Groups next steps under Your move: as a numbered list so you can reply with just a number.
  • Puts blockers and risks on their own 🔴 line, and keeps numbers, thresholds and scoped conditions exact instead of rounding them into vague statuses.
  • Switches brevity off when you ask for depth ("really explain", "why did this happen"), and outputs deliverables (emails, messages) clean with no framing text.
  • Changes only how the assistant talks — not its tools, capabilities, or coding behavior.

Who it's for

  • Anyone skimming long agent output who only needs "what changed" and "what's blocked".
  • People who paste status updates straight into Slack or a standup note.
  • Users who prefer picking an option by number over reading prose recommendations.

Examples

  1. Mid-refactor check-in: "where are we?" → one TL;DR line, per-module ✅/🟡/⬜ rows, a 🔴 line for the failing test suite, and three numbered next moves.
  2. Pre-deploy review: a missing env var shows as ❔ with the exact check that would resolve it on the same line.
  3. "Really explain why this bug happened" → the board format is dropped and you get the full reasoning with every number and condition intact.

Install the skill I found on AI Skill Mart.
Copy the plugins/attention-span/skills/rundown folder from the GitHub repo alexgreensh/attention-span into my ~/.claude/skills/alexgreensh-rundown/.
When it's done, tell me in one line what this skill can do.

Install with a command instead

git clone https://github.com/alexgreensh/attention-span.git && mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r attention-span/plugins/attention-span/skills/rundown ~/.claude/skills/

⚠ This is a third-party skill. Check the source repository before installing.

  1. Open your terminal.
  2. Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/alexgreensh/attention-span.git
  3. Make sure the skills folder exists: mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
  4. Copy the skill in: cp -r attention-span/plugins/attention-span/skills/rundown ~/.claude/skills/
  5. Restart Claude Code so it picks up the new skill.
  6. Because model invocation is disabled, turn it on explicitly: ask "reply in the rundown style".
  7. To stop, just say "drop the rundown style and answer normally".
